Why my search engine changes to yandex everytime i close and open edge???

Today i noticed my search engine switched to yandex and i changed it to bing but when i did some searchs it automatically changed to yandex again and i looked up in the url link for bing and it was {bing:baseURL}search?q=%s&{bing:cvid}{bing:msb}{google:assistedQueryStats} which i think isnt the normal one and i changed it to https://www.bing.com/search?q=%s and for now on it stopped changing it to yandex every search i made but it started to replace the url link again to {bing:baseURL}search?q=%s&{bing:cvid}{bing:msb}{google:assistedQueryStats} when i reopen edge and changin it to yandex again

I tried many things - reseting settings , antimalware checks , regedit checks , preferencies file clear out and still nothing work

Hi, good day!

To help narrow down the cause, when was the last time everything was working properly? Also, have you made any recent changes to your computer, such as installing updates or new software?

Please try this if it helps.

Press Windows key+R to open Run then type:

%localappdata%\Microsoft\Edge\

Make a backup of the User Data folder and save it on another location

After that delete the said folder on the path above

Please check if this fixes the issue.

Hi, I'm having the same problem with Yandex automatically becoming my main search engine. So, it all started today and I haven't made any changes to my computer at all. I can change manually my search engine back to bing, but after an hour or so it changes back to Yandex

I tried what you suggested, but the effect was the same as if I change my engine manually: it changed back after some time. You know, I was thinking maybe it's not an isolated case (at least because the person that created this question had this problem just yesterday). I'm from Russia and Yandex is not just big around here, but also famous for its very aggresive promoting policy: tons of Yandex add wherever it can be, even if it's not really appropriate to be there, Yandex apps are almost guaranteed to be included in pirate software as a "bonus" etc. So maybe it's just another try from Yandex to get more users or something like that, because I really haven't made any changes to my computer recently.

Anyway, I'm not sure how well you know how Edge works, but do you think maybe there's a way to simply restrict Yandex doing anything with my search engine? Maybe there's a way to delete it from optional search engines entirely

Hello, thank you for your response.

Everything was working fine just a couple of days ago, until Microsoft Edge updated itself and notified me about the update when I opened the browser.

Regarding the solution you suggested: I followed your instructions, deleted the User Data folder, then launched Edge again and went through the initial site customization. Unfortunately, the same problem still persists.

Wow, I just replied to you and then decided to check again to see if maybe something had changed — and it worked! Right now when I type anything it no longer switches to Yandex. Your solution really helped me. Thank you so much!
