The Microsoft/Pearson VUE policy is strict: the name on the exam registration must exactly match the name on the government-issued ID that is presented on test day.
From the official requirements:
- "All test takers are required to present one form of original (no photocopies), valid (unexpired) government issued ID with name, photo, and signature. The first and the last name that the test taker uses to register must match exactly the first and last name on the ID that is presented on test day."
For online exams, this is reiterated as:
- "The name on the government issued ID you present must exactly match the name on your Microsoft Certification profile."
Real test-center practice must follow these policies; centers are audited and can lose status if they do not. Proctors and administrators are explicitly required to verify that the identification provided is appropriate and that it matches the person and registration, and they cannot override the name-matching rules.
Given that the registration currently uses only [first name] [family name] while the ID shows a longer legal name, the safest and policy-compliant action is to correct the name on the Microsoft Certification / Microsoft Learn profile and/or the Pearson VUE registration before exam day so that it matches the ID format used in your country.
To resolve this:
- Update the legal name on the Microsoft Learn / Certification profile if needed (for example, to match the full name or the way first and last names appear on the ID).
- If an exam is already booked and the portal blocks direct changes, use the provided support channels to request help with a legal-name correction:
- Microsoft Credentials support:
https://aka.ms/credentials-support(from the Q&A guidance). - General certification help:
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/credentials/support/help.
- Microsoft Credentials support:
- If the issue is on the Pearson VUE side (exam booking record), contact Pearson VUE using their Microsoft contact page:
https://home.pearsonvue.com/microsoft/contact.
Do not rely on the test center accepting a partial or shortened name; policy requires an exact match of the registered first and last name to the ID.
