Bug: Table of Contents keeps closing when selecting a bookmark: Viewing PDFs on Microsoft Edge

Hello,

When viewing any PDF document with bookmarks on Microsoft Edge, the Table of Contents always closes immediately after selecting a bookmark. It is the feature shown in the top left corner of the screenshot below.

In older versions of Microsoft Edge, the table of contents would never close after selecting a bookmark. I would like to know if I can reenable this quality-of-life feature. If not, may those who are able to please implement it again?

I don't want to open the table of contents for every time I want to travel to a new bookmark.

macOS Tahoe (Version 26.5.1)

Hello DeeDee,

Your expectation makes sense. I don’t see a current setting in Microsoft Edge that lets you manually pin or lock the PDF Table of Contents pane after selecting a bookmark. As far as I know, the Table of Contents pane should stay open “for as long as needed” and being closed when the user wants to return to reading.

So, if it now closes immediately after selecting a bookmark in Edge 149 on macOS, this looks more like a behavior change that needs to be look into. I would suggest sending this through Edge > Help and feedback > Send feedback. For now, the practical workaround is to open those PDFs in another dedicated PDF reader that supports a persistent bookmarks / outline pane.
