Hello, thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

    1. Could you please let me know which edition of Office you have? Is it an Office 365 subscription, or do you have a one-time license, such as Office Home 2024?
    2. Please sign in with your Microsoft account on the Services & Subscriptions page and check whether your subscription or license is active and has not expired.

Sometimes, your Office license may not be registered properly with the Office desktop applications, which can cause documents to open in read-only mode. You can try removing the Office license by using the license removal tool provided here, then reactivate your Office applications by signing in with your account. After that, check whether you can edit documents again.
