Monitor flashing full screen colors

I just received my HP Elitebook 800 G3 Mini and in the process of getting it like my last pc. What has started is when it is idle the screen will start flashing various colors full screen. I've set it for screen saver after 2 minutes and dark after 15 minutes. However, only the screen saver works. After 2 minutes the display starts flashing various colors full screen. In addition there is a small block in the upper left corner showing Jay V001 (next line) TSUM5880G 20240604 (next line) M270HVR01-1 (next line) Checksum 14A2. When the screen is flashing colors, these keep changing positions all over the screen.

Any idea what's going on? How do I stop the full screen flashes?

Only way I can stop it is to turn the computer off.

    Hi Jack Anderson

I can understand how annoying it would be when the display suddenly starts cycling through flashing colors after being idle. Based on how the HP Elitebook 800 G3 Mini works and the on-screen text you mentioned, I hope it's safe to assume that this is an external monitor.

Now, before getting further, I must note that this is a community support forum, mainly covering Microsoft products. Meanwhile, what you described sounds more like monitor/display hardware issue rather than a Windows component. Let's try the following to see if the situation can improve:

    1. Try a different video cable, change to HDMI / DisplayPort (recommended)
    2. Replug / plug the cable to another port on your HP Mini (if possible)
    3. If you still have the old PC, connect the display back to it to test.
    4. If possible, connect the HP Mini PC to another monitor or TV.
    5. Press the monitor's physical button to open screen menu > select option (or similar to):
      1. Factory Reset
      2. Reset All Settings
      3. Demo Mode
      4. Burn-In/Test Mode

If the monitor continues cycling colors even after being reset, the monitor's controller board may be faulty. In that case, replacement of the monitor or repair of the display hardware may be necessary. Could you let us know the exact monitor model and number? That may help determine whether there is a known test mode.
