The account that iam facing right now is the school account. Ive been activating f2a, since the importance of using microsoft authenticator to log in into my school account.

However, when i did not open my account in microsoft-related apps like outlook, onedrive, or microsoft-authenticator for several months. I cant log in anymore, especially the microsoft-authenticator itself. They just stop sending code or generating one-time-use code for me when i need to log in into its own application.

When i need to logging in into my outlook using my school account, i just cant. Because there is no way to finish the f2a, if the app for f2a itself is unloggin-able.

Ive been report this incidents to my schoold admin, and it works. BUT, is that the only way to fix? Contacting school admin everytime this thing happens? SINCE this phenomena not only happens once for me. Like what the hell is this authenticator if this didnt even do his job properly

Best regards,

Ur dissapointed humble customer

I think a school‑managed Entra account only lets u update or re‑add Microsoft Authenticator while you can still sign in. Once the app stops showing codes, the usual way back is for the admin to reset your MFA. Users just add another sign‑in method while they still have access.

Hi budi ono

Based on your description, this appears to be a school account managed by your educational institution. For these types of accounts, Microsoft Authenticator settings and MFA methods are controlled by the organization. If you lose access to the registered Authenticator app and no alternative verification method is available, the organization's administrator may need to reset or re-register your MFA methods. Your school's IT administrator would be in the best position to verify the current configuration and help you regain access.

According to my research, in many cases, contacting your school's IT administrator is the intended recovery path when you can no longer complete MFA and have no backup authentication methods available. Microsoft support documentation also recommends contacting your organization's help desk when work or school account verification methods are no longer accessible.

If you can still access any alternate sign-in method (such as another registered phone number, email verification method, security key, or another authentication option configured on your account), you may be able to sign in and update your security information yourself. However, if Authenticator was your only configured MFA method, the administrator typically needs to reset the registration so you can set it up again.

For the future, if your school's policies allow it, you may wish to ask whether additional verification methods can be configured as backup options. Microsoft recommends having multiple sign-in methods associated with a work or school account to help prevent lockout situations if one method becomes unavailable.
