My Edge browser won't open. If I set it as default, nothing happens when I click on it. If I set Brave or Chrome as default and click on Edge, it opens the default browser. I can't uninstall or modify in Settings as the options are greyed out. This has been gong on for about two weeks. Windows Updates are up to date. I have been to many sites with no luck in finding a solution. Any ideas anyone?

    Welcome Donald Hoechst,

I understand how frustrating it can be when Microsoft Edge will not open correctly, clicking Edge either does nothing or redirects to your default browser, and the Repair/Modify options for Edge are grayed out in Windows 11.

Before proceeding, could you please confirm:

    • Does Edge open normally if you start Windows in Safe Mode with Networking?
    • Have you recently used any system optimization, security, or browser management software before the issue started?

In the meantime, you can try these steps below to troubleshoot the issue:

Option 1: Reset the Edge User Data folder

    • Press Windows + R and type: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft
    • Rename the Edge folder to Edge.old
    • Restart the computer and try opening Edge again

Option 2: Run System File Checker

    • Open Command Prompt as Administrator
    • Run: sfc /scannow
    • Restart the device after the scan completes

Option 3: Repair Windows image files

    • Open Command Prompt as Administrator
    • Run the following commands one at a time: DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
    • Restart the computer

Option 4: Check if Edge processes are stuck

    • Open Task Manager
    • End any Microsoft Edge processes
    • Try launching Edge again

    Option 5: Reinstall Edge manually

    • Download the latest Microsoft Edge installer from: Get to Know Microsoft Edge
    • Run the installer and check whether it restores the application correctly

I hope the steps above help you deal with your issue.
