Microsoft project management software used to plan, manage, and communicate a project schedule and other information among workgroup members, project managers, and other stakeholders.
Hello,
Thank you for raising these questions.
Based on Microsoft's published retirement guidance, the behavior you are experiencing does not appear to be an expected result of Project Online being gradually deprecated prior to its retirement date. Microsoft has announced that Project Online will retire on September 30, 2026, and existing Project Online environments are expected to remain operational until that date. The retirement announcement does not indicate that core functionality should begin failing during June or July 2026.

That said, the symptoms you described, such as project site creation failures, publishing jobs remaining in the queue for extended periods, and recurring "Failed But Not Blocking Correlation" messages, are more consistent with a Project Online queue, workflow, or SharePoint site provisioning issue than with normal retirement-related behavior.
According to Microsoft's Project Online troubleshooting guidance, queue failures can often be related to workflow configurations, project state issues, checked-out projects, customizations, or underlying SharePoint dependencies. Reviewing the detailed queue error information is usually the first step toward identifying the root cause.

Another consideration is that some Project Online environments rely on legacy SharePoint technologies such as SharePoint 2013 Workflows or SharePoint Add-ins. Since Project Online is built on SharePoint Online, customers using older workflow or add-in components may experience issues if those dependencies are involved in Enterprise Project Types (EPTs), custom templates, approval workflows, or project site provisioning processes. While this would not be caused directly by the Project Online retirement itself, it could impact certain customized implementations.
I would recommend checking the following with your Project Online/PWA administrator:
- In PWA Settings > Manage Queue Jobs, open the failed jobs and capture the complete error details, correlation ID, and timestamp.
- Verify whether the affected Enterprise Project Type uses a custom workflow or custom Project Site template. If so, test using a default EPT and default Project Site configuration.
- Review whether any SharePoint 2013 Workflows, SharePoint Add-ins, or custom provisioning solutions are involved in project creation, publishing, or site provisioning.
- Create and publish a simple test project using standard/default settings to determine whether the issue is environment-wide or limited to specific templates or project types.
- Confirm that the affected projects are not checked out and that there are no workflow approvals or pending actions preventing processing.
If queue jobs have been stuck for multiple days, the issue may require investigation by Microsoft because the queue logs and correlation IDs are typically needed to identify backend processing failures.
Regarding support availability, I would not assume that Microsoft Support is unavailable simply because Project Online is approaching retirement. If your organization has an active Microsoft 365 support entitlement, your IT administrator should still attempt to open a support request through the Microsoft 365 admin center, especially since this issue is occurring before the official retirement date.
Your IT can follow this guide: Get support - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn .
If you’re unsure who your IT admin is, you can find guidance here: How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support.
I hope this helps. If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
