Math AutoCorrect does not work in PowerPoint for Mac.

Here is the most direct solution to try, which has helped other users in the same situation:

1. Insert a Proper Equation: Instead of typing directly onto the slide, go to the Insert tab on the ribbon and click the Equation button (or its corresponding menu option). This creates a dedicated "Math Region" on your slide.
2. Type and Convert: Inside this specific equation region, type your command (e.g., \gamma).
3. Press the Spacebar: You must press the Spacebar after typing the command for the conversion to happen. For example, typing \gamma and then pressing Spacebar should correctly convert it to γ .

If you are already doing this and it still doesn't work, the issue might be with a corrupted or disabled AutoCorrect file.

As a further troubleshooting step, you can try:

If the checkbox is already marked but the shortcuts still fail, PowerPoint's local preferences may be glitched from the update.

1. Close all Office applications.
2. Open Finder, press Command + Shift + G, and paste the following path:~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.PowerPoint/Data/Library/Preferences/
3. Move the com.microsoft.PowerPoint.plist file to the Trash.
4. Restart PowerPoint and test the equation editor again.

There is nothing which requires any troubleshooting.

At the left end of the Equation tab click the Latex to Math tool.

Unfortunately I know of no way to mae that the default/persistent setting. It has to be done for each although you can select the entire Equation field & convert all within it at once. You can also select multiple Equation fields within a placeholder & convert all at once.
