I can only open Word and Excel as Administrator. My IT guy uninstalled and reinstalled Windows Office 365 Pro and now I can only access Word and Excel files as Administrator.

Hi Digital Daddy

If the issue started only after Office was reinstalled, to better understand your situation, could you please share some information:

  • What happens when you try to open Word or Excel normally (without Run as administrator)? Do you receive an error message, or do the applications simply not open?
  • Does the issue affect all Office applications, or only Word and Excel?
  • If you create a new Windows user profile and sign in with it, can Office be opened normally from that profile?
  • Have you checked whether the Office shortcuts or executable files are configured to always run as administrator (Properties > Compatibility)?
  • Have you had a chance to run an Online Repair of Microsoft 365, and did the behavior change afterward? (Repair an Office application | Microsoft Support)

I look forward to your response!
