OneNote for Mac 16.110.1 hangs after pasting text and during sign-in

Environment:

  • MacBook Pro (Mac14,10, Apple Silicon), 16 GB RAM
  • macOS 15.5 (24F74)
  • Microsoft OneNote 16.110.1 (Build 26062112)

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Create a new section and a new page.
  2. Paste a large amount of text into the page.
  3. OneNote immediately becomes unresponsive and must be force-quit.
  4. The affected synced content was later deleted from the mobile app. The large page no longer exists in OneNote for the web, and the web version works normally.
  5. Uninstall and reinstall OneNote, then sign in again.
  6. OneNote hangs during sign-in at "Looking for licenses".

Additional observations:

  • OneNote does not hang when launched offline. It hangs after signing in/going online.
  • At the time of the hang, OneNote uses approximately 100% of one CPU core.
  • Error type: SIG_HANG_QUIT.
  • The main thread repeatedly blocks during UI drawing:
    NSViewDrawRect -> NSConditionLock -> pthread_cond_wait.
  • A live process sample reproduces the same call stack as the original hang report.
  • Microsoft sign-in and Office service endpoints are reachable.

Troubleshooting already attempted:

  • Deleted the affected page/content from mobile.
  • Confirmed the page is absent and notebooks are accessible in OneNote for the web.
  • Reinstalled OneNote.
  • Restarted macOS.
  • Ran Microsoft Office License Removal Tool 2.7 and signed in again.
  • Tested offline versus online behavior.

Actual result:
OneNote permanently deadlocks after pasting a large amount of text, and subsequently deadlocks again during account sign-in/license lookup, making the Mac client unusable.

Expected result:
Pasting text and signing in should complete normally. Invalid or unusually large page content should not permanently deadlock the application.

This appears to be a regression in version 16.110.1. A similar 16.110.1 paste/edit hang has also been reported for Word for Mac. Please confirm whether this is a known issue and provide a fixed build or an officially supported rollback path.

    I understand that OneNote for Mac 16.110.1 appears to hang after pasting a large amount of text and then also hangs during sign-in/license lookup.

    So far, I don’t see a public official announcement that specifically confirms this 16.110.1 paste/sign-in hang as a known issue.

    As a temporary workaround, you may try reverting OneNote for Mac to an earlier build to check whether the issue is specific to the current version. You can download previous Office for Mac update packages from Microsoft’s official Update history for Office for Mac.

    If this narrows the issue down to build 16.110.1, you may also consider temporarily turning off automatic updates so OneNote does not immediately update back to the affected build before a fix is available.

    In the meantime, I also recommend sending feedback directly from OneNote > Help > Send feedback to report this issue, so it can reach the product team for further investigation.
