Is it possible to stop users from sharing meeting recordings but can share other items like files and word docs.

1/ Restrict sharing links in OneDrive and SharePoint

You can limit how files (including recordings) are shared by:

This reduces the risk of recordings being widely distributed while still allowing controlled document sharing.

2/ Configure Teams meeting policies

Thanks for the feedback. Just to confirm, option one will still allow users to share files such as PDFs, Word documents, etc.?

Option 1 will still allow users to share files such as PDFs, Word documents, Excel files, and others, as long as the sharing settings you configure in OneDrive and SharePoint permit it.

The key point is that this option applies to all files, not just Teams recordings. Since Teams meeting recordings are stored in OneDrive or SharePoint, they follow the same sharing permissions as any other file in Microsoft 365.

For example:

If you disable “Anyone with the link”, users will no longer be able to create anonymous sharing links for any files, including recordings.

However, users can still share documents using more controlled options, such as:

People within your organization

Specific people

Guests (if external sharing is enabled)

These controls are managed through the SharePoint Admin Center and define how content can be shared across your environment.
