The updated Windows setup engine (streamlined mode, introduced in the 2026 release) is designed to reduce friction by natively bypassing certain consumer-oriented screens. Specifically, prompts for personal Microsoft accounts, Cortana setup, and diagnostic sharing can now be suppressed without custom scripts or answer files.

This is achieved through new native configuration options in the setup engine that recognize enterprise deployment contexts. When devices are provisioned with enterprise licensing and domain join or Intune enrollment policies, the setup engine automatically skips those consumer prompts. You can also configure streamlined mode explicitly via unattend.xml or Intune provisioning profiles, ensuring that OOBE focuses only on business-critical steps like network, security, and enrollment.
