Microsoft Word app on IPad keeps losing templates and fonts

I continually have to reinstall or reset my Microsoft Word app on my iPad (which is up to date with IOS 26.5) because the already-installed fonts (Times New Roman) keep disappearing from my documents and I cannot create new documents because it says the templates are gone. So I have to reinstall the App or reset it. This started happening about 6 months ago.

    This sounds less like the documents themselves are damaged and more like Word on the iPad is losing access to its local app resources, such as cached templates or available fonts. Word for iPad can also substitute fonts when the iPad does not have the exact font available.

    Here are some suggestions you can try:

    First, check whether Times New Roman is still installed on the iPad itself. Open Settings > General > Fonts and look for Times New Roman. If it is missing, it is recommended that you install it through a trusted font app from the App Store, then restart the iPad and reopen Word.

    Next, make sure Word is allowed to download online content. Go to Settings > Privacy & Security, then check Microsoft/Word-related privacy options if shown, and also check inside Word under Settings > Privacy Settings. Templates often need online content access, so blocking that can make Word act as if templates are gone.

    Also try signing out of Word, closing the app fully, restarting the iPad, then signing back in. If you use OneDrive, save important documents there before resetting or reinstalling, because deleting the app can remove files stored only “On My iPad.”

    If it keeps happening after reinstalling, use Word > Settings > Help & Feedback to report it as a recurring app issue, and include that it started around six months ago, affects Times New Roman, and causes templates to disappear. That gives Microsoft the exact pattern to investigate.
