The issue is typically caused by one of two things based on similar cases:
- Network or online-only translation
Microsoft SwiftKey’s built-in Translator is designed to work online. If the connection is unstable or blocked, the download/translation spinner can appear to hang.
- Antivirus or security software blocking downloads
Multiple similar issues (attachments not downloading, apps not downloading, etc.) were resolved by fixing or disabling third‑party antivirus/security tools that were blocking downloads.
To troubleshoot on Android:
- Check internet connection
- Ensure Wi‑Fi or mobile data is working in other apps (e.g., browser).
- If on Wi‑Fi, try switching to mobile data (or vice versa) and retry the language pack download.
- Temporarily disable or adjust any third‑party security/antivirus/VPN apps
- If a third‑party antivirus, firewall, or VPN is installed on the phone, temporarily disable it and try the download again.
- If the download works after disabling, adjust that app’s settings to allow Microsoft Translator / SwiftKey traffic.
- Use the Microsoft Translator app for offline packs
SwiftKey Translator is primarily online. For offline use:
- Install the Microsoft Translator app from Google Play.
- Open Microsoft Translator.
- Tap the three dots in the upper‑right corner.
- Select Offline Languages.
- Choose and download the desired language (preferably over Wi‑Fi).
These offline packs then allow translation without a continuous connection.
If the spinner persists after these steps, uninstalling and reinstalling Microsoft SwiftKey and Microsoft Translator, then repeating the offline language download in Microsoft Translator, is the next step.
