In-Place Repair Install Fails with Error 0xC0000409 on Windows 11 Insider Beta Build 26220.8754

Hi everyone,

I'm running Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.8754 (Beta Channel) and I'm unable to perform an in-place repair install.

Issue

When I use Settings → System → Recovery → Fix problems using Windows Update, the repair installation fails with:

Install error - 0xC0000409

Additional Information

  • sfc /scannow reports: Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.
  • I previously had: DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth reporting: The component store is repairable.
  • I was eventually able to repair the component store, but the repair installation still fails.

Panther Logs

The logs contain entries such as:

  • Failed to set WU internal configuration property for targeted scans. hr = 0x80070057
  • TelCacheProvider::Initialize ... [0x80070057]
  • Plugin not registered [ETWMatchingPlugin]

Has anyone also faced these issues as my camera is also not working but through obs virtual camera i can access it

Any help or confirmation from other Insiders would be appreciated.

Hello Nikhil Singhal,

Since this is happening on Windows 11 Insider Beta Build 26220.8754, I would treat it more as an Insider build feedback case than a normal Windows repair situation.

Beta is closer to release than Experimental, but it is still pre-release. Microsoft’s Insider notes also say features and experiences in Insider builds may change, be removed, or not release, and issues should be reported through the Feedback Hub (Win+F).

You already have useful Panther log details, like 0x80070057, TelCacheProvider::Initialize, and Plugin not registered [ETWMatchingPlugin]. These suggest the failure is happening during the Windows Update / setup configuration stage, rather than from a simple system file corruption. I would include those logs when submitting the report, so the Insider team can review the repair-install failure.
