I am trying to create an ocd file using data in an excel file. I am unable to copy the data to the ocd file in MS Word How can I do it without retyping all the data?

Try to link or merge the Excel data into Word.

If you only need to insert tables or sections, open the Excel file, select the cells, press Ctrl+C, then in Word use Home > Paste > Paste Special. Choose either “Formatted Text (RTF)” to keep the table style or “Paste Link” if you want the Word document to update automatically when Excel changes.

If the OCD document is a form or repeated template, use Mail Merge in Word. In Word, go to Mailings > Start Mail Merge, then Select Recipients > Use Existing List and choose the Excel workbook. Insert the Excel fields into the document using “Insert Merge Field.” Word should pull the data from Excel into the OCD document for each record.

If copying is failing, check for protected Excel sheets, merged cells, hidden rows, or incompatible formatting. Try copying smaller ranges first or paste as plain text to test. Saving the Excel file as .xlsx and the Word file as .docx might also help with compatibility issues.
