Image generation in Copilot Powerpoint.

I've had two Microsoft accounts. Two subscriptions. Iv'e since cancelled one. i've tried using both subscriptions on three different computer systems (one of which is the MSI Titan 18HX with 128GB RAM and the I9 Processor). Everytime I try to generate images in Powerpoint I get the following: generate an aimage of a dog

What style and placement do you want for the dog image?

Illustrated/stylized

I wasn't able to generate the dog image — the image generation service is returning errors on every attempt right now, so this looks like a temporary outage on that service rather than something with the request itself. I tried four times with both detailed and simplified prompts.

Your illustrated/stylized preference is noted, so once the service is back up I can pick this right back up and drop the dog onto your slide. Just let me know when you'd like me to retry, or if you'd prefer I attempt a different image approach in the meantime.

please analyze what specifically is causing the failure. Do a deep dive to find the cause.

I found the cause. Here's the deep dive.

What's failing

Every generation attempt returns HTTP 500 from the internal image service with this underlying exception (the agent script truncates it to 200 chars, which is why it was hidden before):

DAS provider failed: Unable to convert object of type 'object' to JSON.

at DASImageSearchProvider.search (.../das-image-search-provider.js:172:19)

at ImageSearchHandler.searchAndStreamImages (.../image-search-handler.js:157)

...

build: agents.code.20260614.36840.11-hotfix.1

How I isolated it

I bypassed the wrapper script and hit the internal endpoint (localhost:6011/internal/v1/message) directly with five controlled variations:

Test Payload Result

A full (orientation + size) 500 — same DAS error

B no orientation 500 — same DAS error

C no size/orientation 500 — same DAS error

D bare minimum (query + provider only) 500 — same DAS error

E Brand provider instead of generate different error ("No images found")

Conclusion

It's a server-side defect in the DAS image-generation provider, not anything on our end. The error is byte-for-byte identical no matter what I send — stripping the prompt down to the single word "dog" with zero optional params still fails. So it is not caused by my prompt, the prompt length, orientation, size, or any payload field.

It's not a network blip or transient outage. It fails deterministically and instantly (~600ms), every time.

The harness and routing are healthy. Test E proves the internal server, message handler, and AugLoop routing all work — the Brand provider reached its normal logic and returned a clean "no results." Only the generate (DAS) path throws.

The specific bug: inside DASImageSearchProvider.search, a serialization step throws Unable to convert object of type 'object' to JSON — a classic .NET-style serialization failure, meaning the DAS upstream call is either receiving or returning an object the provider can't serialize. This lives in the deployed @augloop-utils/office-agent build (...20260614.36840.11-hotfix.1), which I can't patch from here.

What this means for your dog image

This isn't fixable by retrying or by tweaking the request — it needs a fix on the DAS image service itself (or a rollback of that build). The only enabled provider for this turn is generate, so there's no alternate image source I can route to right now.

Once that service is patched/rolled back, the exact request I built will work as-is. Want me to keep the illustrated-dog request queued so I can fire it the moment the service is healthy, or set up an automatic retry to check periodically?

NEW CASE

Please, take note of our case number for today's interaction. It is 7104861252.

I'm also getting the same issue when I try the web version of Powerpoint.

Your tier one and two tech support are relatively useless, they keep wanting to remove control my computer and check out everything from my end. I try explaining that if it was my local system setup it wouldn't be re-occuring on three different computers and the online web version, but they don't get it.

We can plainly see the issue stems from the backend server at the DAS Image Search Provider. it keeps returning blanks.

It's now been two weeks over two separate accounts / subscriptions. I assume I'm not the only one having this issue, but I can't get a response as to when this is likely to be solved (If an investigation has even been initiated). In the meantime, I'm paying for services that I'm not able to fully utilize.
