Hello everyone :)

I have been dealing with a critical issue for several months now and have been unable to get a resolution through Microsoft Support. I am hoping someone here can help or escalate this appropriately.

Background:

I changed the primary email address of my Microsoft account. Before doing so, I reinstalled the OneNote app on my Android tablet, signed in again, and verified that my notebook was fully accessible. I also opened several important pages and confirmed the content was visible.

What happened after the email change:

  • I can only open pages that were already cached before the email change.
  • All other pages show the error: "OneNote cannot load this page because it cannot connect to the server"
  • Additional errors reference section files and permissions, with error code 0x2bdf5f
  • When attempting to open the notebook in OneDrive on the web, I receive an HTTP 403 error
  • When attempting to share the notebook, I receive a SharePoint/OneDrive error: System.ArgumentException, Status 400
  • OneNote still displays the notebook as linked to my old email address

Current status:

  • The notebook is visible in OneDrive and I am listed as the owner
  • All section names are visible on my android tablet in the OneNote app
  • The data appears to still exist on the server, but cannot be loaded
  • Downloading the file directly from OneDrive (right-click → Download) also fails

What I have already tried:

  • Verified notebook presence in OneDrive
  • Signed out and back into OneNote
  • Cleared OneNote app cache
  • Checked account settings at account.microsoft.com
  • Attempted to restore the old email address as an alias
  • Contacted Microsoft Support multiple times for multiple months now

The core problem:

Microsoft Support has been redirecting me between the OneDrive team and the OneNote team for months, with each team stating the issue belongs to the other. No technical investigation or escalation has taken place.

This notebook contains important study materials and I have exams soon. The data is clearly still present on the server, but the authentication/permission link between my account and the notebook appears to have broken during the primary email change.

My request:

I am asking for a technical review and proper escalation. Specifically: can a Microsoft engineer verify why the account permission binding broke after the email change, and explain me how to manually re-link the notebook to my current account identity?

I would be really happy for any help! Please... :)

Dear @Regina,

I am incredibly sorry to hear about the stress and immense frustration this situation has caused you, especially with your exams coming up. I completely understand how critical it is to get your study materials back, and it is incredibly exhausting to be passed back and forth between support teams for months when your data is clearly right there.

Because this community forum operates as a public Q&A platform, I and my fellow moderators do not have backend administrative access to Microsoft’s account databases, servers, or tenant identity systems. Since this issue involves a broken permission binding deep within your Microsoft Account identity token after the primary alias change, it can unfortunately only be resolved by internal Microsoft engineering teams who have the tools to inspect and manually re-bind account security identifiers (SIDs).

I strongly urge you to contact Microsoft Support again, but this time, use the specific phrasing and immediate data-saving steps below to bypass the frontline automated loops and force an escalation.

Before trying anything else, do not log out, clear data, or uninstall OneNote from your Android tablet. Since you mentioned some pages are cached locally, please manually copy and paste that text or take screenshots of those critical study materials immediately. If you log out or reset the app, those cached pages will be permanently lost because the tablet cannot re-authenticate with the server to fetch them again.

When you changed your primary email alias, your unique account identifier (Puid/User SID) remained the same, but the SharePoint/OneDrive resource URL and the internal People Picker cache broke. The notebook path is still looking for the old email's security token.

  • The HTTP 403 (Forbidden) and SharePoint Status 400 (Bad Request) errors confirm that the server recognizes the file exists, but completely rejects your new email identity token as an unauthorized user.
  • The Error 0x2bdf5f indicates a local sync engine authentication block caused by an identity mismatch.

I know it is deeply frustrating to have to reach out to support yet again, but because this requires backend server manipulation, their specialized cloud engineers are the only ones with the administrative permissions to fix this identity link.

I hope the above information is clear. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
