DC overall energy consumption and power usage effectiveness

Microsoft does not publish power usage effectiveness (PUE) figures broken out by individual physical datacenter building to customers. What is published is aggregate PUE and WUE data at a global level and by operating geography (Americas, Asia Pacific, EMEA), and your UK datacenters fall under the EMEA reporting bucket. PUE is an industry metric that measures how efficiently a datacenter consumes and uses the energy that powers the datacenter, including the operation of systems like powering, cooling, and operations, and Microsoft tracks these statistics at a global level and by operating geographies including EMEA. There are two separate things you likely need to satisfy your client request, so here is how to get each one.

Get Microsoft's published facility level PUE and WUE figures Go to the Microsoft Datacenters sustainability page and review the global and regional efficiency metrics. Power usage effectiveness (PUE) is measured by dividing the total energy needed for a datacenter facility by the total energy used for computing, and the closer the PUE number is to 1, the more efficient the datacenter. Check for a localized regional fact sheet covering UK or EMEA Microsoft has previously published per region fact sheets covering datacenter operations, including energy and water use, for many regions worldwide. Search the Microsoft Datacenters sustainability hub for a UK specific or EMEA specific fact sheet, since these go into more local detail than the global rollup. Get your own tenant specific energy consumption and emissions data This is almost certainly the more useful figure for your client, since it reflects your actual Azure usage rather than Microsoft's facility wide averages. Connect to the Emissions Impact Dashboard for Azure, a Power BI app that calculates estimated electricity consumption (kWh) and carbon emissions tied specifically to your subscriptions, broken down by service, subscription and region, including your UK regions.

• In Power BI, go to Apps then Get apps and search for Emissions Impact Dashboard for Azure.
  • Connect it to your tenant ID and the relevant Enterprise Agreement or Microsoft Customer Agreement billing account.
    • Filter the report by region to isolate UK South and UK West (or whichever UK regions your workloads run in). Connect to the Emissions Impact Dashboard for Azure
    Escalate through your account team if site specific figures are required If your client specifically needs facility level PUE for the exact UK buildings hosting your workloads rather than the published regional aggregate, this level of detail is not available through self-service tools. Your Microsoft account team or Customer Success contact can request this through Microsoft's sustainability and datacenter operations teams, since site specific figures are sometimes shared under NDA for enterprise sustainability reporting obligations.
