Excel macOS Find dialog shows Find All button labelled in Hungarian!

Excel 365 macOS up-to-date Tahoe up-to-date Excel

Yesterday I invoked the Find dialog and found that the Find All button was labelled in Hungarian. Note, just one button, not all buttons! Screenshot—

Various searches suggested that I had Hungarian installed as a language in Excel (I don't) or in macOS (I don't) or that an old preference file is causing it (I've never had Hungarian for anything, so unlikely). I restarted Excel. I restarted the Mac. Still happens. I reset Excel's preferences. Still happens.

And today I see it occurs on my MacBook Air as well, so it seems unlikely to be a single machine issue.

Any ideas what is causing this?

I am seeing this issue too. At first I only noticed it in Name Manager in Excel. Now I checked your example which came up when i tried to search for this issue. I noticed I also have the button labelled wrong in the Find dialog.

I am on MacOS Tahoe 26.5.1 and Excel Version 16.110.1 (26062112) and my Mac preferred language settings is for English (New Zealand) only, Excel was set on English UK, though I have tried picking English US and English Australia but I think that just affects the document.

Most other dialogs I checked fine and in normal English. I have no reason to have ever used or selected Hungarian ever on my computer. I am in NZ.

Edit: Just after my comment I tried setting MacOS settings in 'Language and Region' to have English (US) as my most preferred language, and after closing / re opening Excel - the words were fine.
I now have tried English Australia, and UK which both put the dialogs in what I assume is Hungarian.

So... some silly bug related to non US English I guess.

Adding a custom language option for just Excel as "English -English" in the Language and Region settings works fine.

I've created a custom language preference for Excel of English - English as you suggested. It has fixed it for now. Of course, problems that appear randomly sometimes come back randomly!

I too have the same issue

Excel 365 - Version 16.110.1 (26062112)
MacOS - 15.77

I have reset the com.microsoft.Excel.plist file

Language & Region are set to Australia, I have also tried US.

Restarted computer as well, several times.

None of these "fixes" work

I have never had Hungarian installed. But there are "random" Hungarian buttons now in Excel.

This seems to be only occuring in Name dialog boxes (assign and manage), Find and Find and Replace Dialogs (see below)

Hi there.

Check out the comment from Louis Deverell to his original post where he found that adding a custom language setting in System Settings for Excel to use English - English.

This has fixed the issue for me (for now?…come on Microsoft!) on both my machines.

Based on the information provided, this does not appear to be a typical language configuration issue, particularly because only the Find All button appears to be affected while the remainder of the Excel interface stays in English. You also mentioned that the behavior persists after restarting Excel and resetting Excel preferences.

According to my research, here are some recommended steps you can try to check:

If you have not already done so, you may wish to check the following:

Open Excel and select Excel > Preferences.
Open Language & Region (or International, or something similar meaning depending on the version).
Confirm that English is selected as the application language.
Close and restart Excel.

If that option is not available:

Open Apple Menu > System Settings.
Select Language & Region.
Under Preferred Languages, verify that English is listed and positioned at the top.
Under Applications, check whether Microsoft Excel has an application-specific language assigned and ensure it is set to English.
