Are you using this webcam?

Nevertheless, this webcam and the built-in microphone are not detected by Windows on your desktop PC.

Perhaps you can try to disconnect this webcam and connect to another USB port. Avoid using any unpowered USB hub. Connect this webcam directly to an USB 2.0 port on your PC. Make sure that the Privacy Protection Cover is open.

Check if the webcam is working in Windows Camera app.

What device are you using Teams on? Is it Windows, Mac computer or a mobile device?

    Hi @Lori Barbee

    Thank you for reaching out.

I understand that you need help changing Microsoft Teams settings so your audio and video can work properly during Teams meetings or calls.

To provide the most accurate guidance, please help confirm a few details first:

    1. Are you using the Teams desktop app, Teams on the web, or the Teams mobile app?
    2. Is the issue with your microphone, speaker, camera, or all of them?
    3. Does this happen in all Teams meetings, or only in one specific class/meeting?
    4. Are the microphone or camera buttons grayed out/disabled, or can you select them but they still do not work?

In the meantime, you can try the following checks:

    1. Open Microsoft Teams.
    2. Select three dots next to your profile picture.
    3. Select Settings > Devices.
    4. Under Audio settings, choose the correct Speaker and Microphone.
      User's image
    5. Under Video settings, choose the correct Camera and check whether you can see a camera preview.
    6. If available, select Make a test call to confirm whether Teams can detect your speaker, microphone, and camera.
    7. User's image

Before joining a meeting, also check the meeting pre-join screen. Make sure Computer audio is selected, confirm the correct microphone and speaker are selected, and turn on the camera to check whether the preview appears before selecting Join now. Teams audio settings can be changed before joining or during a meeting, and changes made during the meeting take effect immediately.

If the microphone or camera button is disabled, the meeting organizer or teacher may have turned off attendee microphone or camera access. In that case, please ask the organizer to confirm that Allow mic for attendees and Allow camera for attendees are enabled for the meeting. Because organizers can manage whether attendees can use their microphones and cameras before or during a meeting.

If the issue continues, please also check whether Teams has permission to access your microphone and camera in your device or browser settings. If the microphone and camera work in other apps but not in Teams, the issue is more likely related to Teams settings, browser permissions, or school/organization policy. If they do not work in any app, the issue may be related to the device, operating system permissions, or drivers.

I hope this helps. Please share the answers to the four questions above so I can narrow down the most suitable next steps.

In Teams open Settings -> Devices.

What exactly are the names of the audio and video devices selected on this screen?

Please,  run the DirectX diagnostics tool.

Go to Windows Start and in the Run box (Windows key + R) type dxdiag.exe and press the OK button. This will start the DirectX diagnostics program. Run this diagnostics and save the results to a file.
