Using Copilot on Word and Excel

My Microsoft 365 account is an educational affiliate, which means Copilot isn't included, and I wanted to use its benefits in Microsoft applications. I wanted to know if I used my personal account to subscribe to Copilot, will it work with my educational affiliate account? I have all my files on that OneDrive, which I usually use.

Also, I was reviewing the subscription plans and didn't realize these Copilot plans now include the Microsoft suite. Is there a way to only get Copilot? Because I already have the suite through my organization. I do apologize for the silly questions 😣

If you subscribe using a personal Microsoft 365 plan that includes Copilot, you may be able to use Copilot with files from your educational OneDrive in supported Word and Excel apps, provided your organization allows multiple-account access. In this setup, your school account permissions and compliance policies still apply. Copilot use when multiple accounts are added to Microsoft 365 apps | Microsoft Support

Please note that this is more limited than having a Copilot license assigned directly to your educational account. For example, it can help with the currently open file, but it does not provide the full organization-wide Copilot experience. Use Microsoft 365 Personal, Family, or Premium at work | Microsoft Support

At this time, standalone consumer Copilot purchase is generally no longer the standard option, as Copilot is now included in select Microsoft 365 personal plans.

Thank you @Huy-K for the very insightful information. I went ahead and subscribed to the individual plan and added it to my original account through my Microsoft Suite apps. I restarted the computer and re-logged into the apps to see if the copilot button would appear, but it didn't.

I also followed the steps to this: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/how-to-find-and-enable-missing-copilot-button-in-microsoft-365-apps-c8482b93-4b96-4bb8-8ec9-5148f4d42441, but the same issue.

Any insight?

No, I didn't, as I mentioned before, I have all my files on the educational account that I need to work from.

Firstly, download all the files on the educational account that you need to work from to your local device.

Then, log in Office apps with the account that has Copilot subscription.

Next, to use Copilot with your files, please make sure you open the relevant files in the Office apps using the same account that has the Copilot subscription assigned. This helps ensure Copilot is available and properly connected to your licensed account.
