As the title says, I cannot finish setting up my account because I get timed out when forced to set up MFA. I get this message.

Dear @Dennis Phillips,

I understand how frustrating it is to get locked out by a timeout error while trying to complete your account setup.

The BadRequest error during Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) registration usually occurs due to a browser session conflict, cached corrupted data, or a temporary handshake failure between your local network and Microsoft Entra ID.

Please try the following steps immediately to resolve the issue:

  1. Use an Incognito/InPrivate Browser Window: Open a completely private browser session. This ensures that no old cookies or cached session states interfere with the MFA registration flow.
  2. Clear Browser Cache: If you prefer your standard browser, clear your cookies and cached images/files entirely before trying again.
  3. Switch Networks or Devices: If the timeout persists, a local network restriction or firewall might be interrupting the security token exchange. Try completing the setup using your mobile device's cellular data network instead of your local Wi-Fi.
  4. Use the Microsoft Authenticator App Method: If you are timing out while waiting for an SMS verification code, select the option to use the Microsoft Authenticator app instead. It utilizes a direct QR code scan which bypasses SMS telephony delays.

For more detailed, step-by-step guidance on setting up your security info, you can refer to the official Microsoft documentation: Set up your Microsoft 365 sign-in for multi-factor authentication | Microsoft Support

If you attempt these steps and still encounter the same correlation ID error, please reach out to your organization's IT Administrator. They can temporarily require you to re-register MFA or white list your IP from the Microsoft Entra admin center to bypass the block.
