Family Safety or Xbox privacy settings are blocking chat, and the changes being made on the web are not propagating correctly to the device/account.

Since the account is in a Microsoft Family and the organizer controls safety settings, use these steps:

    1. Confirm the account and role
      • Go to https://account.microsoft.com/family and sign in with the organizer account.
      • Confirm that the affected account is listed and that the organizer account is indeed the organizer.
    2. Adjust the child/member’s safety settings
      • As the organizer, open the affected member’s settings in the Family group.
      • Ensure communication/multiplayer/chat permissions are set to allow (not block). These settings must be changed by the organizer; members cannot override them.
    3. Force-refresh Family Safety settings on the Windows device If the web page says the settings are saved but behavior does not change on the PC:
      1. On the affected Windows device, press Windows + R.
      2. Type cmd and select OK.
      3. In the Command Prompt, run:
              schtasks /run /tn "Microsoft\Windows\Shell\FamilySafetyRefreshTask"

      4. Restart the PC and test Minecraft chat again.
      • These steps must be run on each impacted device.
    4. If the account is incorrectly treated as a child
      • If the affected account is an adult but is still having organizer-enforced settings applied, only the organizer can currently turn those settings off. Contact the organizer account and have it set the permissions to allow chat/multiplayer.

If, after the refresh task and restart, the settings still do not apply, repeat the Family Safety changes (toggle to block, save, then back to allow, save) and run the refresh task again, then restart.
