Hello Microsoft,

Since today morning I cannot use my word application in mobile I cannot open the application as it immediately crashes down and moreover it shows the app has a bug and please tell me a way to solve this bug and i need my documents safely

Even I am facing the same issue. I have a screen recording of the app automatically closing/crashing, but I am unable to upload it here. If you can provide me with an email address, I can share it with you. By the way, I use a Redmi A2+ which has Android 13 Go version.

Since Word is closing immediately when you open it, this looks more like an app-level crash rather than an issue with your documents. Your documents should remain safe if they are saved in OneDrive or stored locally on your device.

Please try these quick steps:

Open Play Store and update the Microsoft Word app if an update is available.

Go to Settings > Apps > Word > Storage, then tap Clear cache.

Restart your phone and open Word again.

If it still crashes, uninstall Word, restart the phone, then reinstall it from the Play Store.

For the Redmi A2+ / Android 13 Go device, also make sure there is enough free storage and close other apps before opening Word, as low memory can sometimes cause apps to close unexpectedly.

Follow these steps to get Word for Android working again and keep documents safe:

Confirm documents are safe
Documents stored in OneDrive, SharePoint, or email are not affected by the app crashing. The problem is with the Word app on the device, not the files themselves.
Try opening the files on another device
Since Word for Android is crashing, open the same documents in:
- Word for Windows
- Word for the web
- Word for iOS
If they open, save a new copy of each document from that device. This can repair elements that Word for Android cannot read so they will open normally later:
1. Open the document in Word (Windows, web, or iOS).
2. Select File > Save as.
3. Choose Word Document as the type.
4. Give it a new name and select Save. Use the new copy on Android once the app is working again.
Check file formats when Word stops crashing
When Word for Android is working again, make sure the files are in supported formats (for example, .docx). If a file is in an older or unsupported format and only opens read-only or not at all, open it on another device and save it as a .docx file as above.
If specific files still won’t open on Android
Even after repair, some elements in a document may not be supported on Android. In that case, keep using Word for Windows, Word for the web, or Word for iOS for those particular documents.

If the app itself continues to crash every time it starts (even with no document open), reinstalling Word for Android from the store and then reopening documents from OneDrive/SharePoint/email is recommended, because the documents themselves are stored separately and remain safe.
