Good day Dave!
Thank you for sharing your experience with OneDrive Photos.
I understand that the People section in OneDrive Photos is showing grouped faces on your old iPad, but on your new iPad it stays empty and only lets you search by name, even though the regular photo gallery loads normally.
This may not mean that anything is wrong with your photo library. Microsoft’s article Group photos by people in Microsoft Photos says the facial grouping feature in OneDrive Photos is still coming soon/rolling out and it may take time to process photos. In some regions, consent may also be needed before facial grouping can start.
For now, please make sure the OneDrive app is fully updated. Then open OneDrive > Photos > People and check whether any prompt or consent message appears. If nothing appears, try signing out and back in, or reset/reinstall the OneDrive app as a general app refresh.
If the People section still stays empty after that, it may not be fully available for that account/device yet. As Microsoft still describes this feature as coming soon, it may just need more time to become available or finish processing. In the meantime, you can keep an eye on the official article above for any availability updates.
Thank you so much for your patience!
Best regards.
