Repeated VIDEO_DXGKRNL_FATAL_ERROR 0x113 after Windows update KB5094126 on NVIDIA RTX 4060 Laptop GPU

After installing Windows update KB5094126 on Windows 11 build 26200.8655, I started getting repeated blue screens during GPU-heavy gaming workloads.

The crash is consistently:

VIDEO_DXGKRNL_FATAL_ERROR

Bugcheck: 0x00000113

Parameters include NVIDIA vendor/device IDs: 10de / 28a0

GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4060 Laptop GPU

NVIDIA drivers tested: 610.62 and 610.47

I performed a clean NVIDIA driver install, but the issue still occurs.

The most reproducible trigger so far is modded Minecraft/Fabric using Iris shaders/OpenGL rendering. The system may BSOD shortly after shader pipeline reloads, dimension changes, or heavy chunk loading. Other games are mostly stable, though one Source 2 game caused temporary black screens/display resets.

I understand that mods or shaders can crash a game, but this is a Windows kernel graphics bugcheck and full system reboot rather than only a Minecraft crash.

Windows created minidump files for the crashes, but I am not attaching them publicly.

I could not roll back KB5094126 through Windows Update. Is this a known Windows/NVIDIA/OpenGL compatibility issue on this Windows build? Are there recommended mitigations or diagnostics I should collect?

This behavior can occur for several reasons. It is necessary to investigate.

Please see if your computer created minidump files.

These files are in C:\Windows\Minidump.

(If you don't have a Minidump folder, check if it is in the plural Minidumps.)

Copy any files you have to your desktop and store them in a ZIP file. Then, upload the ZIP file to the cloud (OneDrive), choose to share it, and get the link.

Then, post the link to the ZIP file here so I can have a look.

Just to clarify: If you are afraid to share the minidump files due to personal information, don't worry. Minidump files do not contain personal information. It is perfectly safe to share them.

The minidumps only mention Nvidia drivers as the cause of the crashes. No other drivers are mentioned.

Just to confirm, please clarify the following:

When you performed a clean installation of the Nvidia driver, did you use only the driver installer, or did you remove the old driver beforehand using the free DDU tool?

Was the driver you installed cleanly downloaded directly from Nvidia or one of their apps, or did you download it from the Gigabyte website?

For the clean install, I used NVIDIA’s own clean installation option during the driver install. I did not use DDU beforehand.

The drivers were downloaded directly from NVIDIA, not from Gigabyte.

I first tested NVIDIA driver 610.62 from the NVIDIA App, then clean-installed 610.47 from NVIDIA’s website. The BSODs still occurred after that.

The laptop/OEM-provided NVIDIA driver is much older, from 2024, so I have not tested it yet except as a possible diagnostic fallback.

For laptops, it is recommended to use the latest Nvidia driver provided by the laptop manufacturer. The driver provided by Nvidia may not work satisfactorily or may be unstable on laptops. I've seen this happen several times.

Therefore, I suggest you download the latest driver for your graphics card from the computer Gigabyte's website (Link below). Then, use the free DDU tool to remove the current driver. Then, install the latest driver using the installer you downloaded.

I suggest disconnecting from the internet during the entire procedure.

(Turn off Wi-Fi or disconnect the Ethernet cable.)

See if the system will work stably after this.

I understand the reasoning behind testing the OEM Gigabyte driver, especially for laptop-specific power/hybrid graphics behavior. However, the Gigabyte NVIDIA VGA drive is version 31.0.15.3652, which is a much older NVIDIA branch.

For context, I have been using regular NVIDIA public drivers, including 590-series and newer branches, on this laptop for around two years without needing the Gigabyte/OEM NVIDIA driver, and the system was stable until recently. Because of that, I’m hesitant to treat the 2024 OEM driver as a permanent solution for a gaming laptop that needs current game support, optimizations, and compatibility.

I may consider the OEM driver as a short diagnostic test, but ideally I’m looking for a solution that works with current NVIDIA Game Ready/Studio drivers, or at least a more recent stable public NVIDIA branch.

Since the dumps point only to NVIDIA drivers, would you recommend trying DDU with a current NVIDIA driver first, or testing a specific newer/older NVIDIA public driver branch before falling back to the OEM driver?

Edit: One thing I forgot to mention: before the Windows update, I was using NVIDIA driver 596.49.

That driver was completely stable for me before the update, with no BSODs. The crashes only started after the Windows update.

That's the problem with using Nvidia's direct drivers on laptops; after an update, they can suddenly make the system unstable. That's exactly what I've seen happening several times.

However, if you prefer to test first with the Nvidia driver, no problem, go ahead. Use DDU to uninstall the current driver and install the latest Nvidia driver. If the problem persists, try an older driver. Ideally, use the driver that you know kept the system stable.

If the system remains stable with the old version, I recommend that you stick with it for a while and keep an eye on Nvidia's updates to see when a new version is released.

I will try a DDU clean uninstall and then reinstall a current NVIDIA public driver first.

One clarification: the driver I know was stable, NVIDIA 596.49, was stable before KB5094126 / build 26200.8655. After the Windows update, the crashes also occurred on that driver, so rolling back to 596.49 alone may not resolve the issue on the current Windows build.

If the crash happens again after the DDU clean install, I’ll share the new minidump.

specifically going back to NVIDIA 596.49 with DDU fixes the BSODs.

I tried to replicate it with consistent prior attempts unsuccessfully so I'm assuming the system is stable now.
If there is any issues in the near future I'll update.

Small update for kuzeta, if its specifically a laptop and a gaming one check your battery health, if your battery is dying it might not be able to support small power spikes that exceed the AC's power draw when switching between the iGPU and dGPU, a lot of laptop manufacturers do this on higher end dGPUs. I specifically have a dead battery and haven't realised at the time that it could be part of the problem.

Another thing that helped me was undervolting my gpu via afterburner to stop the power spikes, atleast till I get an OEM battery replacement

Theres a lot of guides on YouTube how to undervolt via afterburner if youre unfamiliar but this should stop crashes completely, unlike the default driver suggestions but I would also try that.
