In a Microsoft family group, the organizer role is controlled from the family group settings. To change who is organizer, remove and re-add members with the desired roles.
To make the parent the organizer again:
- Go to the Microsoft family site in a browser and sign in with the parent account: https://family.microsoft.com or https://account.microsoft.com/family.
- Check the current roles for each person in the family group (Organizer or Member).
- If the parent account is not an organizer, create or join a family group where the parent is set as Organizer when adding members:
- Select Add a family member.
- Enter the child’s email or phone.
- Choose Member (or Child) for the child’s role and Organizer for the parent account.
- If needed, an existing organizer can remove and re-add accounts to correct roles:
- Sign in with an organizer account.
- Select the child’s name and choose Remove from family group.
- Then re-add the child as a Member or Child.
Note: Only organizers can remove or add members, and a family group must always have at least one organizer. Family groups without an organizer and at least one other member are deleted.
