Please note that Windows 7 (even in a VM) is end-of-life — no security updates since 2020, and you've already hit the downstream pain of it. IE8 can't open the download page because it only speaks TLS 1.0, while modern sites like mozilla.org require TLS 1.2+. That's not a fixable setting on the IE side; the browser is simply too old for today's web. So I'd gently steer you away from leaning on a Win7 VM for general browsing if you can avoid it.

If you do need it, the workaround is to bring the installer in from outside the VM rather than browsing for it:

On your host machine (the real PC running VMware), download Firefox 115 ESR from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ > Firefox Extended Support Release.

Then transfer that installer into the Win7 VM. That hand-off (drag-and-drop, shared folder, USB/ISO mount) is handled by VMware's own tooling, so the exact steps and any troubleshooting there fall under VMware/Broadcom's docs rather than something I can drive from the Windows side.
