Hi, okay first of all can you stop the updates please? It's annoying. You keep changing the interface no one needs. Please return the forward page button on default. Also, what's up with this passkey thing? I always used my password to log into hotmail for like the past 17 years and now you come and keep telling me to create a passkey... why? Please stop ok. Moreover when I wanted to post this question so it tells me "please complete the registration process" and you HAVE to tick "I would like to recieve" blablabla NO I WOULD NOT WTF Not cool MS okay? Not cool. Shut your stupid bing up already it's not an alternative to Google k it's a joke. Everyone uses Goole just deal with it. And last but not least: could you just release Windows 12 already? I enjoyed getting new version of Win as I was growing up and like XP came it was sooo cool then Vista whatevs then 7 etc etc. WTF some integrating AI, stop apps and whatnow. WE JUST WANT ANOTHER WINDOWS.
Do don't dumb MS. Also stop updating Edge. It annoys me.

I'm sure Microsoft would be chagrined to hear that they are annoying you, but they won't hear that here in Microsoft Q and A since this is a community forum.

Microsoft has no choice but to keep up with with their competitors, which is why Microsoft Edge gets updated so often.

Passkeys are much, much safer than the passwords we are all used to. A passkey can't be forgotten, phished, intercepted on the internet, stolen by malware, or exposed in a data breach. The faster passwords can be replaced by passkeys, the better. At the very least, you want to have passkeys for all your portal accounts, i.e., your Microsoft account, Google account, Apple account, etc.

In order to even be able to reply to you I had to use my computer once again because I can't sign in on my phone, apparently when it tells me to check out the code sent to my Outlook app (whatever they keep calling the good old hotmail) there should be a certain app or a certain place in my app to go see it as nothing appears and, alas like always, I have to sign in via my Gmail address like I've been doing for the past year or so... This. Just this. You think it's easy to hack (provided I had meaningful stuff stored in there which ofc I don't)? I, THE OWNER of my email account, have to go to great lengths in order to sign in. By the way, then it asked me to change my password which I obviously denied since I'm not intending to change that. So pray tell: WHY would I need a passkey when this is already a mess? I can't use Outlook on my phone it's a good thing I have Gmail. "Keep up with the competitors"? Huh. Looks like Google leads by a mile here. Actually I'm going to switch to Chrome pretty soon considering all this, also thinking of deleting my hotmail altogether. Yup, we're there. Sigh.

Microsoft Edge updates frequently by design. Edge is a core component of Windows that provides the web platform many apps rely on, and it is kept up to date for security, compatibility, accessibility, and performance.

From the documentation:

Edge is the default browser and an essential part of Windows, so it cannot be uninstalled and is updated through the browser’s own updater and Windows Update.
Feature updates are released on a frequent cycle, and security/compatibility fixes are shipped as needed.
Automatic updates are turned on by default so that devices stay protected and receive the latest features.

To reduce how disruptive updates feel, Edge allows checking and managing updates from within the browser:

Open Microsoft Edge.
Go to Settings and more > Help and feedback > About Microsoft Edge (or type edge://settings/help).
On this page, Edge shows whether it is up to date and, depending on the device and region, may show toggles such as:
- Download and install updates automatically
- Download updates over metered connections

On metered or certain regional connections, updates may not download automatically; in those cases, updates must be triggered manually from this page.

On Windows, Edge can also be updated via Start > Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates.

Interface changes (such as button placement) and new features (like passkeys) are part of these regular updates and are not disabled by turning off updates. The documentation does not provide a supported way to completely stop Edge from updating.
