Viewing an Outlook inbox from within the Teams app

Hey all,

Is it possible to view emails within the Teams desktop app? I am working with an organization to streamline their communications, but their primary concern is with being able to view emails from within the Teams app.

Currently they use Gmail.com accounts, accessed through various apps. Their question is, are they able to view their inboxes through Teams? If they can do everything (chat, virtual meetings, email) through one single app like Teams, that would be highly preferable to still needing a second app (Teams and an email app).

Hi Grady,

Good day and thank you for your clear explanation of your requirements and the scenario you are working with.

At this time, Microsoft Teams is primarily designed for collaboration and communication rather than email management. It integrates closely with Outlook in areas such as calendar scheduling, meeting coordination, and presence information. However, Teams does not currently provide a built‑in capability to view or manage a full email inbox directly within the app. Therefore, a dedicated email application is still typically required for handling day‑to‑day email activities.

With that in mind, since your idea of bringing chat, meetings, and email into a single unified experience is very thoughtful and would certainly be valuable for many organizations looking to streamline their workflows, I recommend submitting your feedback through the Microsoft Teams · Community. Customer feedback plays an important role in influencing product enhancements, and your voice could help bring attention to a feature that many people would truly benefit from.
