Hi Manon Laurent,
Based on what you’ve described, the issue often comes down to how Windows Update for Business interprets deployment settings in Intune. If the update was marked as a security or quality update with a mandatory deadline, it may override the ring delay configuration and push to all devices at once.
To prevent this, I recommend double-checking the update ring policies in Intune, especially the Servicing and Deadline parameters. Make sure the exploratory ring has a longer deferral period configured, and confirm that the production ring does not inherit settings that force immediate installation. It’s also worth reviewing whether the update was classified as a critical release, since those can sometimes bypass normal deferrals.
Another safeguard is to use deployment service reports in Intune to trace which policy was applied to the affected devices. This will help you confirm whether the ring configuration was overridden or if there was a misalignment in policy assignment. Adjusting the ring hierarchy and ensuring that each ring has unique, non-overlapping policies should restore the intended 14-day delay.
Give this a try and let me know how it goes. If you find this answer helpful, kindly hit “accept answer”.
