To add a new user account on a Windows 10 home laptop and let that person sign in:
- Open Settings from the Start menu.
- Select Accounts.
- Select Other user (or Family & other users, depending on your build).
- Under Add other user, select Add account.
- Choose how to set up the account:
- If the person already has a Microsoft account, enter their email address and follow the prompts.
- If they do not have a Microsoft account, enter their existing email and select Sign up for a new email address, or
- Select I don't have this person's sign-in information, then choose Add a user without a Microsoft account to create a local account.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to finish creating the account.
If the new user needs administrator rights (for example, to install apps):
- Go back to Settings > Accounts > Other user.
- Under Other users, select the account you just created.
- Select Change account type.
- In Account type, choose Administrator, then select OK.
Note: Limit administrator accounts to only those who really need full control of the device to reduce security risks.
