Teams Web works successfully using my Guest account.

My account appears as [Moderator note: Personally Identifiable Information removed]gmail.com (Guest).

I can access all chats through Chrome.

Only the Android Teams application fails with:

AADSTS90023: An error occurred while processing incoming message.

I have already:

  • Uninstalled and reinstalled Teams
  • Force stopped the app
  • Successfully authenticated via browser using passkeys

The issue appears limited to the Android Teams application's authentication flow.

Hi @Ansari Husna,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

We understand that you're unable to sign in to Microsoft Teams on mobile using a guest account, while the web version works without issues.

Based on the information you provided, the error AADSTS90023: “An error occurred while processing incoming message” typically occurs when a guest user attempts to sign in to Teams mobile within a B2B (Business-to-Business) environment. This issue is related to token validation and re-authentication between tenants, where the authentication flow must process tokens across different organizations.

Microsoft Teams on the web uses a more flexible authentication flow: tokens are refreshed more aggressively, and cross-tenant guest redirects are handled more efficiently. In contrast, the Teams mobile app stores tokens locally. As a result, old or conflicting tokens are not always cleared, tenant switching can be more fragile for guest accounts, and Android devices are particularly sensitive to token cache corruption.

To help narrow this down, may I confirm the following:

  • Have you set up Microsoft Authenticator as part of your Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)?

If you have already set it up, please try signing in to Teams mobile using the Microsoft Authenticator app.

Thank you again for your time and understanding. I really appreciate your patience, and I’m here to help. Looking forward to your response!
