Office Home & Business 2019 shows as LTSC 2021 and won't activate

Hello,

I have Office Home & Business 2019 for Mac listed in my Microsoft account under Services & Subscriptions (added on 20 February 2023).

This license was working correctly on my MacBook Air 2020 (Intel) until recently.

I uninstalled Office completely, removed license files, and reinstalled Office version 16.78.

The previous error:

"Your Office 2019 licence is not supported with this version of the application"

has disappeared.

However, Word now shows:

"Licence: Office LTSC Standard for Mac 2021"

instead of Office Home & Business 2019, and Word/Excel remain locked for editing even after signing in with the Microsoft account that owns the Office 2019 license.

Could you please help me remove the incorrect LTSC licence and activate my Office Home & Business 2019 for Mac licence?

Thank you.

The apps are picking up an LTSC volume license instead of the retail Home & Business 2019 license. That LTSC license keeps the apps in read‑only mode even though the correct Microsoft account is signed in.

Remove the LTSC license and reactivate against the retail license as follows:

    1. Completely quit all Office apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
    2. Remove existing Office license data on the Mac:
      • Open Spotlight (magnifying glass in the menu bar) and search for Keychain.
      • Open Keychain and search for Office.
      • Delete the Office data license entry.
      • Run the Office license removal tool as described in Remove Office license files on a Mac. This clears any remaining LTSC/volume license remnants.
    3. Uninstall any existing Office apps to avoid conflicts:
      • In FinderApplications, locate Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
      • Control‑click each and choose Move to Trash.
    4. Reinstall Office using the retail channel, not LTSC:
      • Go to the Services & subscriptions page for the Microsoft account where “Office Home & Business 2019 for Mac” is listed.
      • Use the Install option there to download and install Office for Mac. This installer is tied to the retail Home & Business 2019 license.
    5. After installation, open Word or Excel:
      • When prompted, sign in with the same Microsoft account that shows Office Home & Business 2019 under Services & subscriptions.
      • The product should now activate as Office 2019 and editing should be unlocked.

If the apps still show “Office LTSC Standard for Mac 2021” after these steps, repeat the license removal (Keychain + license removal tool), ensure no LTSC/volume media is installed, and reinstall only from the account portal tied to the Home & Business 2019 license.
