    Hi @Lynch-Holm, Valerie

Based on the message you shared, this usually points to a stale or expired OneDrive cached credential stored in Keychain Access on your Mac, rather than a problem with your files themselves. I found a workaround for OneDrive on macOS is to remove the cached OneDrive credential from Keychain and then start OneDrive again.

Therefore, please try the following first:

    1. Open Spotlight and search for Keychain Access
    2. In Keychain Access, search for OneDrive.
    3. Delete OneDrive Cached Credential.
    4. Reopen OneDrive and sign in again if prompted.

If Keychain Access does not let you remove it normally, an alternate approach is in Keychain Access: use Window > Keychain Access, then File > Delete Keychain for the relevant OneDrive/Office/MS keychain item and choose Delete References.

If the prompt still keeps returning, the next documented step is to unlink OneDrive from the Mac, then clear the cached credential, and sign in again:

    • Select the OneDrive cloud icon in the menu bar.
    • Go to Help & Settings > Preferences > Account.
    • Select Unlink this Mac.
    • Then remove the cached OneDrive credential from Keychain Access and reopen OneDrive to sign back in.

If you still cannot clear the popup after that, I recommend uninstalling and reinstalling OneDrive. You don't need to worry, uninstalling the app does not remove your cloud files or data.

Since you are using a work or school account and if issue continues even after the steps above, it would be best to contact your Microsoft 365 admin or open a support ticket with Microsoft 365 support, because they may need to check whether there is an account-side or device-management issue involved.

I hope this helps. Should you have any further concerns, please feel free to reach out.

The prompt is coming from a cached Microsoft/OneDrive credential stored in macOS Keychain. Removing that cached credential and letting OneDrive/Office recreate it stops the repeated keychain password window.

Follow these steps on the Mac:

    1. Quit all Microsoft apps
      • Close OneDrive, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, etc.
    2. Open Keychain Access
      • Use Spotlight (Cmd+Space), type keychain, and open Keychain Access.
      • If it doesn’t appear, open Applications > Utilities > Keychain Access.
    3. Find the cached OneDrive/Drive credential
      • In the search box (top right), type OneDrive or a distinctive part of the message such as Drive Standalone Cached Credential.
      • Look for an item named similar to:
        • OneDrive Cached Credential
        • or the exact entry that matches the “Drive Standalone Cached Credential Business-Business1” wording.
    4. Delete the cached credential
      • Select the matching credential entry.
      • Press Delete (or right‑click > Delete).
      • Confirm deletion.
    5. (If still prompted) Remove related OneDrive/Office keychain items
      • Still in Keychain Access, search again for OneDrive.
      • Delete any remaining OneDrive Cached Credential entries.
      • Optionally, if the prompt is clearly from OneDrive for Business, you can also remove related OneDrive/Office sync entries as described:
        • Delete UBF8T346G9.OneDriveSyncClientSuite.plist and UBF8T346G9.OfficeOneDriveSyncIntegration.plist from /Users/<username>/Library/Group Containers/ if you are troubleshooting sync/account issues as well.
    6. Restart OneDrive / Office
      • Start OneDrive again (via Spotlight: type OneDrive and open it).
      • Sign in when prompted. A fresh credential will be stored, and the repeated keychain password window should stop appearing.

If the prompt is from Office apps in general (not just OneDrive), and it keeps asking for keychain access every time an Office app opens, restore Office keychain permissions:

    1. Quit all Office apps.
    2. Open Keychain Access.
    3. Select the login keychain in the top-left.
    4. From the File menu, choose Lock Keychain "login".
    5. Open an Office app (for example, Word).
    6. When prompted for keychain access, enter the Mac admin password and choose OK (and Always Allow if offered).
    7. Close and reopen the app to confirm the prompt no longer appears.
