A Microsoft file hosting and synchronization service.
Hi @Lynch-Holm, Valerie ,
Based on the message you shared, this usually points to a stale or expired OneDrive cached credential stored in Keychain Access on your Mac, rather than a problem with your files themselves. I found a workaround for OneDrive on macOS is to remove the cached OneDrive credential from Keychain and then start OneDrive again.
Therefore, please try the following first:
- Open Spotlight and search for Keychain Access.
- In Keychain Access, search for OneDrive.
- Delete OneDrive Cached Credential.
- Reopen OneDrive and sign in again if prompted.
- Kindy follow the article for more details: Fix OneDrive sync problems on Mac - Microsoft Support
If Keychain Access does not let you remove it normally, an alternate approach is in Keychain Access: use Window > Keychain Access, then File > Delete Keychain for the relevant OneDrive/Office/MS keychain item and choose Delete References.
If the prompt still keeps returning, the next documented step is to unlink OneDrive from the Mac, then clear the cached credential, and sign in again:
- Select the OneDrive cloud icon in the menu bar.
- Go to Help & Settings > Preferences > Account.
- Select Unlink this Mac.
- Then remove the cached OneDrive credential from Keychain Access and reopen OneDrive to sign back in.
If you still cannot clear the popup after that, I recommend uninstalling and reinstalling OneDrive. You don't need to worry, uninstalling the app does not remove your cloud files or data.
Since you are using a work or school account and if issue continues even after the steps above, it would be best to contact your Microsoft 365 admin or open a support ticket with Microsoft 365 support, because they may need to check whether there is an account-side or device-management issue involved.
- For detailed instructions on how to get support, please refer to Get support - Microsoft 365 admin.
- In case you do not know who is your IT admin, kindly refer to this article: How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support.
I hope this helps. Should you have any further concerns, please feel free to reach out.
