The error indicates that the email account being used is not present as a guest user in the target Microsoft Entra tenant (“Microsoft Services”), so it cannot access the Innovation Studio application. Only an administrator of that tenant can resolve this; it cannot be fixed from the participant side.
Actions to take:
- Provide the exact error text and correlation details to the hackathon/Innovation Studio support team so their Entra admin can investigate:
- Error message: “Selected user account does not exist in tenant 'Microsoft Services' and cannot access the application 'e7017a9c-15b4-4e1b-8f1f-9922ec818fd4' in that tenant. The user account needs to be added as an external user in the tenant first. Please use a different account.”
- The email address used to sign in.
- The Innovation Studio / hackathon Entra administrator must:
- Add the registered email as a guest user (B2B) in the “Microsoft Services” Entra tenant, or
- Confirm whether tenant restrictions or sign-in risk policies are blocking access and adjust as appropriate.
- If the account is added as a guest but sign-in is still blocked due to risk, the guest user’s home tenant admin may need to remediate user risk (for example, by resetting the password or dismissing false-positive risk) before access is allowed.
Because guest access and tenant membership are controlled entirely by the resource tenant’s administrators, the only viable path is escalation to the hackathon’s official support or tenant admin so they can invite the email as a guest and verify policies.
