I have created a new company email account for 365. I am not receiving, nor able to send any emails.

I am attempting to use the email to create accounts associated with my business. All of these require verification requests. I am not receiving any of them. I then had my partner attempt to send me an email from her personal email and did not receive it. I then attempted to send her one, but she did not receive from me.

I am sure this is a simple case of some setup required, can anyone direct me to the right place to resolve this?

I would like to first clarify that this is a user-to-user support forum, and we are not Microsoft support. Hi @Anthony Lamb

Based on the information you provided, I understand that you have recently created a new Microsoft 365 business email account. However, you are unable to send or receive emails, including verification emails from external services and test emails exchanged with another user.

This issue is commonly related to initial configuration or provisioning settings that may not yet be fully completed.

To help resolve this, please check the following:

-Please ensure the user has a valid Exchange Online license assigned. After assigning a license, mailbox creation can take some time to fully provision

-If you are using a custom domain, confirm that: The MX record is correctly pointing to Microsoft 365 and the domain status in Microsoft 365 Admin Center shows as Healthy/Verified

-Please ensure there are no mail flow rules or security policies blocking inbound/outbound emails. Also check if the account is restricted from sending (this can happen with new tenants or suspicious activity flags)

-An admin can run a message trace to confirm whether emails are being delivered, rejected, or not reaching Microsoft 365 at all

To collect more information, I’d like to ask: When you try to send an email and it fails, do you receive a Non-Delivery Report (NDR)? If so, could you please share the error message?

This will help me better understand the issue and assist you more effectively.

Follow these steps to get the new Microsoft 365 company email working for send/receive:

  1. Verify the domain in Microsoft 365
    • Sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin portal and make sure the custom company domain is fully verified.
    • If the domain is not verified, email for that domain will not work.
  2. Check the MX record for the domain
    • In the Microsoft 365 admin portal, go to the DNS settings for the domain and note the required MX record value for Exchange Online.
    • In the public DNS for the domain (usually at the domain registrar or DNS host), ensure the MX record points to exactly the value shown in Microsoft 365.
    • If the MX record is missing or incorrect, inbound mail will not arrive.
  3. Allow for DNS propagation
    • After adding or correcting the MX record, it can take time to propagate:
      • Domain replication in Exchange Online can take up to 1 hour.
      • MX record replication across global DNS can take up to 72 hours.
    • During this period, some or all email may fail to arrive.
  4. Test using Outlook on the web
    • Sign in to Outlook on the web for the new mailbox.
    • Send a test message to and from another external address once the domain and MX record are confirmed and enough time (up to 72 hours) has passed.
  5. If still not working after 72 hours
    • Use the Microsoft 365 admin tools for email delivery troubleshooting to check for delivery issues.
    • If problems persist, open a support case from the Microsoft 365 admin center so Microsoft can check the mail flow and domain configuration.
