Legacy Outlook for Mac is now removing history when emails are replied or forwarded

Hi All,

I use Outlook version 16.110 on a Mac (M2Pro) running MacOS Tahoe 26.5

After last Microsoft update, when i am replying or forwarding; i see history of the email chain is getting removed. This is not expected as we cant check the email to understand the full history.

In search i found another thread which talking the exact same issue. I tried to implement the recommendations given in this thread, but it did not fixed my issue. I tried to tag this issue in that. But i was advised to open a new thread, hence i am opening this thread.

I use Outlook Legacy mode as it offers browsing from one email to other emails using keyboard option (ctrl+[ / ctrl ] ) and this option does not work in newer look.

Please help me to fix this issue. Let me know if you need any more details about the issue. If needed i can show the issue in a zoom/team web call as well.

Reverting to 16.109.3 seems to have fixed the problem. Can I/we please ask that Microsoft do better QA on updates? At an affiliated organization where I know people, there was a Microsoft update this weekend on the Windows side that was buggy and made people backtrack the version. If you are going to suggest auto-updates, please make sure that updates do not steamroller prior capabilities. Attribution of prior email content in a thread is important. Thank you.

Ugh!! Having the same issue. Can't roll back the app store version easily, and we have many users! Hopefully there will be a fix quickly!

Same issue- just on mac studio; Macbook all okay still. Can revert to the non-legacy version and solves the problem but much prefer legacy outlook :(

Microsoft needs to fix this issue. This is RIDICULOUS and is causing SERIOUS issues in our organization. Billion dollar company can't update without completely screwing something up. Joke.

An easy workaround: When replying or forwarding: "select all" and copy the email you're replying to or forwarding. Then when you click reply or forward, paste the email you've copied into the message area. You can also keep track of the thread that way.

Once I download 16.109.3, how do I revert Outlook back to this version and delete 16.110. Auto Update has been turned off. Thanks.

Same thing here. This is a serious problem to not show the original email thread. Microsoft needs a fix NOW. None of the suggested fixes work, and I am not savvy enough to go back to a previous OS without losing all of my data. I'm going to have to pay a technician to do this. RIDICULOUS

As of this afternoon, it seems to be fixed. I did not make any adjustments or applications - just waited out the fix. It is now working for me.

Hi @RK and everyone,

Microsoft has rolled out version 16.110.1 on Current Channel. Please update your device to this version to fix the issue.

Hi Dora, MS Automatic update shows 110.1 for Excel, Powerpoint, and Word but shows 110 for Outlook. I am on 109 and that workaround is working based on your earlier post. This happens when I select Current Channel or Current Channel (Preview). What am I missing?

You might want to try downloading and installing the Outlook 16.110.1 update package directly from the Office for Mac release history page, then check whether the issue is resolved.

If the issue persists after updating to Outlook version 16.110.1, I recommend contacting Microsoft Support for further investigation.

Hi,

After upgrade issue is fixed. Few of my friends who has same issue finding slowness in the Auto upgrade, it is processing last 12 hours for them. still not upgraded.

Looks like the problem is fixed. I just applied the Microsoft Outlook for Mac (Legacy) update: 16.110 and I'm now able to reply or forward emails while preserving the history of the email chain.

As a temporary workaround, disabling Compose messages in HTML and When replying, keep original message format in Outlook composing setting fixes the problem - you lose HTML though...

This was also an issue for me as well.

The below resource was the only way I reached a resolution.

Version 16.110 (26061317) was impacted.

Version 16.109.3 (26053122) was the last update before this change.

This problem's fix was just released for testing to the beta channel in build 16.111 (26062117). If you are in the beta channel you should check for updates and install this build.

I don't know when the fix will reach Current Channel and Current Channel Preview.

I hope this at least lets you know that Microsoft is testing the fix right now and that it should reach everyone soon, assuming the fix doesn't break something else that's important. If you want to join the beta channel to get this fix, use the Help menu in Outlook and choose Check for Updates. This launches AutoUpdate. Click the Advanced button and change from Current Channel to Beta Channel. Let the updates install. Once installed, you can return to AutoUpdate and switch it back to Current Channel if you don't want to keep getting beta builds. You won't lose the current beta build, but you won't get updates until you catch up to the Current Channel cycle (about 2 months).

Note: not everyone has permission to switch to beta channel. If beta channel is not available to you, then either just wait patiently for the next Current Channel update or revert to an older version.
