Microsoft CoPilot: CoPilot Notebooks has anyone been able to get CoPilot to actually edit or add content to them?

I tried the new Notebooks feature but CoPilot says it is unable to actually edit the Notebooks or add new pages. It says to copy/paste it's responses into the Notebooks and that it can read them but not modify.

I thought the point of CoPilot Notebook was that they could be modified by CoPilot?

Copilot Notebooks can’t directly edit notebook structure or page content today. Within a notebook, Copilot can:

    • Read and use the references and pages added to the notebook
    • Summarize, analyze, answer questions, and draft content based on those references

    However, current limitations include:

    • No image generation or data visualizations inside the notebook
    • No general web grounding (it only uses notebook references)
    • Copilot-generated content (like Copilot Pages and audio overviews) is stored in the notebook, but Copilot does not act as a full document editor for existing pages

Because of this, Copilot often instructs to copy/paste its responses into the notebook rather than inserting or editing content directly. The primary design is as an “intelligent, scoped workspace” where Copilot focuses on grounded analysis and drafting, not on structural editing of the notebook itself.
