So I finally was able to get the record slide option in powerpoint the, but, when I click the tab it just records the slides it does not bring up mic or video icons ? I have them both enabled in settings . Does anyone have a solution I am on a macbook air

Just to confirm, when you mention the Record Slide option in PowerPoint, I assume you’re referring to the recording experience similar to this image, right? User's image

From my testing on macOS Tahoe 26.3.1a with PowerPoint version 16.109.3 (26053122), when I click Record, it first shows a countdown, then opens the recording interface with a camera preview. I can record across slides continuously. During this time, the camera and mic icons become greyed out, which is expected behavior.

Similarly, if a slide already has a recorded video, the Record button, camera, and mic icons will also be greyed out, and you won’t be able to interact with them unless you delete the existing recording on that slide.

If in your case the camera or mic icons show a diagonal slash, you can click them to reconfigure the device. If you’ve already set them up, try toggling them off and on again. Please make sure to fully quit PowerPoint before reopening it, as changes may not apply otherwise.

Another thing to check is your PowerPoint version. If your build is slightly outdated, some recording features may not behave as expected. It would be worth updating to the latest version and testing again.

On Mac, the newer recording experience with visible mic and camera controls is provided by the Record feature (the updated version of Record Slide Show). If only slide timings are being recorded and no mic/video controls appear, use the dedicated Record entry point instead of just starting a basic slide show recording.

Use these steps:

Open the presentation in PowerPoint for Mac.
On the top app bar, select Record (next to Share / Present in Teams) to open the dedicated Record window.
- This window is where presenter video and audio are captured.
In the Record window, turn on the microphone and camera using the controls at the bottom (mic and camera toggles).
Select Record to start recording from the current slide (or choose to start from the beginning if prompted).
When finished, stop the recording; the narration and video are saved into the slides.
To export as a video, use File > Export > Create a Video and choose the desired settings.

If the Record button or Record tab is not visible, ensure PowerPoint is updated to a version that supports the new Record experience, as the enhanced recording features (including presenter video and mic controls) are tied to that interface.
