Not receiving password reset emails

Within the past month, I have stopped receiving password reset emails. At first I thought the problem was isolated to a single website, but I see now that it is happening across the board. It's really become a problem.

What steps can I take to fix this problem?

Thanks.

Work through these checks in order in Outlook for Mac and in your Microsoft account:

    1. Check mailbox/storage limits
    • If using Outlook.com or a Microsoft account, verify that Microsoft cloud storage is not full. When storage is full, new mail (including password reset messages) is bounced and unrecoverable. Use the mailbox storage page linked from Outlook.com guidance to confirm and free space if needed.
    1. Confirm the account is working for other mail
    • Send a test message to the address from a different account and verify it arrives.
    • If no messages arrive at all, follow the general Outlook.com guidance: check for account issues (password recently changed, temporary block, or sign-in problems) and resolve those first.
    1. Check Junk/Spam and Blocked Senders
    • In Outlook.com or Outlook on the web:
      1. Sign in to Outlook.com.
      2. Go to Settings > Options or Mail.
      3. Open Blocked Senders or Block and allow.
      4. If any of the sites’ sender addresses or domains are listed, select them and remove them.
    • In classic Outlook for Mac/Windows (if also used with the same account):
      1. On the Home tab, select Junk > Junk Email Options.
      2. On Blocked senders, remove any legitimate senders or domains.
    1. Check rules and device sync
    • Make sure there are no rules (in Outlook.com or Outlook) that automatically delete or move messages from these sites.
    • If only one device is affected, remove and re-add that account profile or device partnership so it resyncs cleanly.
    1. Verify sign-in and password status
    • If the Microsoft account password was changed recently, ensure Outlook for Mac is using the current password. If prompted in the app, sign in again with the updated password.
    • If sign-in to the account itself is unreliable, use the Microsoft account sign-in helper or account recovery flow to stabilize access first.
    1. Test with a different address
    • Ask one of the websites to send a reset email to a different email address (if possible). If that works, the issue is specific to the Outlook/Microsoft mailbox and the checks above (storage, blocked senders, rules, account status) are the focus.

If, after these steps, the mailbox still does not receive any password reset emails from multiple sites while other mail works, collect details (time, sender, and site) and contact the site’s support and/or Microsoft support so they can check for delivery or blocking issues on the service side.

Thanks very much for your response. I should have mentioned that the email in question is an @icloud.com. It should have occurred to me a lot sooner, but I opened Apple Mail to see if a password reset email would show up there, and I see that it has not. This suggests to me that this is an issue with iCloud, not with Outlook. I will reach out to them to see if they can help.

    Thanks.

    Hello marygauxlightly,

Thank you for the update. I also noticed the AI-generated answer. Those steps mainly apply when the affected mailbox is Outlook.com, Hotmail, Live, MSN, or Microsoft 365.

Since your address is @icloud.com and the same password reset message does not appear in Apple Mail either, this does not look specific to Outlook for Mac. Outlook can only show messages that are received and synced from the mail provider.

If Apple confirms the messages are present in iCloud Mail but still missing only in Outlook for Mac, please update this thread so the Outlook sync side can be reviewed.
