This behavior is controlled by how Excel windows are saved and reopened, not by a setting to “lock” a fixed position. Excel reuses the last window layout that was saved with a workbook or with Excel itself.

To keep a consistent layout:

  1. Open one of the workbooks.
  2. Arrange and resize the Excel window exactly where it should appear on the desktop.
  3. Close any extra Excel windows for that same workbook (if there are multiple windows like Book1:1, Book1:2).
  4. Press Ctrl+S to save the workbook while it is in the desired position.
  5. Close Excel.
  6. Reopen the workbook; Excel should now reuse the last saved window arrangement for that file.

If multiple windows of the same workbook are being saved, Excel can reopen them in different positions. In that case, close the extra windows first and then save, as described above.

If you want an Excel spreadsheet to always open in the same position on your desktop, Excel does not have a built-in setting for this. However, you can try these methods:

Method 1: Save the Window Position

    Open the Excel file.

Move the Excel window to the desired location on your screen.

    Resize the window if needed.

    Save the workbook.

Close Excel while the workbook is still in that position.

When you reopen the workbook, Excel may remember the last window size and position.
