Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Good day @Fadi Abadir,
Thank you for sharing your concern.
To sign in with a work account as a separate profile, you need Windows 10/11 (or Pro) or Enterprise, since Home edition only lets you add a work account for apps but not use it as the main login or manage the device.
- First, check which Windows edition your device is running, as signing in with a work account depends on it. Please go to Settings > System > About.
Please refer to the scenario that best matches your situation:
Scenario 1: If your device is Windows 11 Pro, Enterprise, or Education
Your device fully supports signing in with a work account and joining Microsoft Entra ID. Please follow these steps carefully to ensure correct setup:
- Step 1: Properly join the device to work account
Open Settings > Go to Accounts > Select Access work or school > Click Connect.
Choose Join this device to Azure Active Directory.
Sign in using your work account.
After completing, confirm the device shows as connected to Microsoft Entra ID.
- Step 2: Sign in using the work account
Click Start menu > Select your user profile icon > Choose Switch user.
Sign in using your work account credentials.
This will create a separate work profile tied to your organization.
- If the system still redirects to a personal account, this usually happens because the same email is registered as both a personal Microsoft account and a work account.
To avoid this conflict:
Make sure no personal Microsoft account is signed in on the device.
Go to Settings > Accounts > Emails & accounts and remove any personal accounts.
Open Credential Manager and remove saved Microsoft credentials in both Web and Windows Credentials.
Restart the device and repeat the join steps above.
Scenario 2: If your device is Windows 10/11 Home
Windows Home does not support signing in with a work account at the device level. This is why you are being redirected to a personal account.
- Option 1: Upgrade to Windows 10/11 (Pro)
This is the recommended approach for your business use case.
Open Settings > Go to System > Activation.
Select Upgrade your edition of Windows.
Follow the prompts to upgrade to Pro.
After upgrading, you can follow the steps in Scenario 1 to join the device properly.
Note: You may consider backing up important data before upgrading to avoid unexpected data loss. Please visit this article to know more how to back up your data in Windows: Back up and restore with Windows Backup - Microsoft Support
- Option 2: Continue using Windows Home
If upgrading is not possible:
Sign in to Windows using a local account or personal Microsoft account.
Go to Settings > Accounts > Access work or school.
Add your work account.
This allows access to apps like Outlook, Teams, and Office, but does not allow:
- Signing into Windows with the work account.
- Device management or domain-style control.
