The Send to OneNote experience is currently affected by known service-side issues and some client limitations; the behavior described matches those known problems rather than a local misconfiguration.

Key points from current behavior and available workarounds:

    1. “Save/Send to OneNote” from Outlook
      • The Send to OneNote add-in is a cloud add-in that runs in a web frame (HTML/JavaScript).
      • On some platforms and configurations, the add-in fails authentication because of how the embedded web view is sandboxed or how conditional access/compliance is enforced. A similar issue is documented for Outlook for iOS, where the add-in cannot complete device authentication and fails due to WebView restrictions and stricter compliance changes.
      • There is also a documented, tenant-wide service incident where users see errors when sending email or calendar items to OneNote via the Send to OneNote add-in in any Outlook client. That incident was traced to a recent change enabling stricter compliance regulations and required a service-side fix. In other words, the error text and behavior indicate a service/add-in issue, not something that can be reliably fixed by reinstalling apps or changing local settings on the Mac.
    2. “Send to OneNote” availability and requirements on Mac
      • The Send to OneNote add-in is supported in recent Outlook for Mac, Outlook for Windows, and Outlook on the web.
      • On Mac, the add-in requires using OneNote “in the cloud” with a Microsoft 365 or Outlook.com account. It will not work with non-Microsoft personal accounts such as Gmail.
      • The add-in is built in and cannot currently be disabled or uninstalled; there is no local toggle to repair it beyond standard sign-out/sign-in and update steps.
    3. Why OneNote may not appear as a printer option (workaround path)
      • On Windows, a documented workaround for Outlook.com is to use Print → Send to OneNote as a virtual printer. That guidance relies on the Windows “Send to OneNote” printer driver.
      • That specific printer-based workaround is Windows-only; it does not apply on macOS, which is why OneNote does not appear in the printer list on a MacBook Pro.
    4. What is known to be fixable vs. not fixable locally
Based on the provided context: • Known service incident: Microsoft has acknowledged a service issue where users cannot send email or calendar events to OneNote via the Send to OneNote add-in, returning an error about restrictions and requiring a service-side fix.
      • Known platform limitation: On some platforms (for example, Outlook for iOS with conditional access), the add-in cannot complete authentication due to WebView/sandbox behavior; this is not something that can be corrected by end users.
      • On Windows desktop, if Send to OneNote/Meeting Notes buttons fail, there is a registry-based fix for a specific policy value (DisableSendEmailtoOneNote). That fix is Windows-only and does not apply to macOS.

Given the above, for a MacBook Pro with current Outlook and OneNote builds:

    • The missing “Send to OneNote” printer option is expected on macOS; that workaround is not available there.
    • The sign-in and sandbox error from the Send to OneNote button is consistent with known add-in/service issues and cannot be resolved by local configuration alone.
    • If this is part of a Microsoft 365 tenant, the appropriate next step is for the tenant admin to check the Service Health Dashboard for active incidents related to Send to OneNote (similar to SI MO1166829 in the referenced material) and follow Microsoft’s guidance there.

Until Microsoft’s service-side issue is fully resolved for the tenant and platform, the reliable alternatives are:

    • Manually copy/paste email content from Outlook into OneNote pages.
    • On Windows (if available), use the documented Print → Send to OneNote virtual printer workaround; this is not available on macOS.
