how to create free plan

To create a free learning plan, start a course, and receive progress emails on Microsoft Learn:

1. Sign in to Microsoft Learn
   • Ensure there is a Learn profile and sign in. A Learn profile is required to create or start any plan.
2. Create a Collection
   • First create or copy a Collection of Learn content (modules, learning paths, etc.) that should be in the plan. Follow the guidance in "Create and manage Microsoft Learn Collections" (linked from the Plans documentation) to build this Collection.
3. Convert the Collection to a Plan
   • Go to the profile, open the Collection, and use the option to convert the Collection to a Plan.
   • When the plan is created, the Collection’s title, description, and section descriptions are copied into the plan. Sections become milestones.
   • Optionally add learning outcomes and adjust milestones (for example, recommended days to complete each milestone).
   • Publish the plan when ready.
4. Start the Plan as a Learner
   • Open the plan’s start page and select Start.
   • If the plan is not an official Microsoft plan, consent may be required to share progress with the plan creator.
   • Once started, the plan appears under Profile → Plans, where it can be resumed at any time.
5. Receive Email Updates on Progress
   • When a plan is started, an email is sent confirming the start (if Learn email notifications are enabled).
   • Another email is sent when halfway through the plan.
   • A final email is sent when the plan is completed.
   • To control these notifications, adjust email preferences in Learn profile settings (see "Manage your Learn profile settings" from the documentation).
6. Invite Learners and Track Progress (optional)
   • After publishing the plan, use Manage → Invite learner to share the plan link or send it via email.
   • Optionally create learning groups to generate unique links and track progress by group.
   • Progress and completion reporting is available to the plan creator at no cost.

All of this is free: anyone with a Learn profile can create, start, and complete plans, and plans only use Microsoft Learn content.
