Desktop CoPilot and CoPilot Online Synch Issues

Hi,

I have been using the CoPilot desktop App and recently signed into CoPilot in Edge because I understand that it is more capable. However, online shows a few months and not my full history. I am signed into my Microsoft account on both versions. Can you please help my understand what is going on? Is there a way to export my desktop app items and import them online?

Thank you,

Nick

Copilot activity history is stored per account and per experience, and not all Copilot surfaces expose or sync the same full history view.

Key points based on current behavior:

    1. Activity history storage
      • Copilot stores “conversation history” (queries and responses) in the cloud for signed‑in Microsoft accounts.
      • This history is accessible and manageable via the Microsoft privacy dashboard when signed in with the same Microsoft account.
      • The Edge sidebar and the Copilot web/app experiences both use this cloud history, but each UI may show only a subset (for example, recent months) rather than the entire stored history.
    2. Why Edge Copilot shows only recent months
      • The Copilot pane in Edge is designed primarily around recent conversations and page‑context chats, not as a full archive viewer.
      • Page‑context chats (for example, “summarize this page”) are not stored or used for training beyond the summarized content, and Edge/Copilot do not store the underlying page context itself.
      • As a result, what appears in Edge can be a shorter or different list than what exists in the broader Copilot activity history service.
    3. Exporting history
      • Copilot activity history for a Microsoft account can be exported centrally from the privacy dashboard, not from the desktop or Edge UI directly.
      • To export all Copilot activity history:
        1. Go to the privacy dashboard while signed in with the same Microsoft account used in both Copilot desktop and Edge.
        2. Navigate to PrivacyEmpower your productivityCopilotCopilot app activity history.
        3. Select Export all activity history. This downloads a CSV file with the stored Copilot activity.
      • This export is one‑way; there is no supported mechanism to “import” that CSV back into Copilot Online or Edge to repopulate or extend the visible chat list.
    4. Deleting or managing history
      • In the same privacy dashboard location, Delete all activity history can be used to clear Copilot app activity history for the Microsoft account.
      • Conversation history in Copilot is retained until the user deletes it.
    5. No supported cross‑import between desktop and online
      • There is no documented feature to export chats from the Windows/desktop Copilot app and import them into Copilot in Edge or on the web so that they appear as native conversations there.
      • All experiences rely on the same underlying account‑based history service, but each client controls how much and how it displays that history.

In summary, the difference being seen is due to how each Copilot client surfaces history, not a sign‑in mismatch. All available history for the Microsoft account can be exported from the privacy dashboard as CSV, but it cannot be imported to extend the visible history list in Copilot Online/Edge.
