Microsoft for Startups Azure credits linked to wrong Microsoft account

I was accepted into Microsoft for Startups and received the following email:

"Congratulations on your acceptance to Microsoft for Startups!

As a strategically aligned startup, you're ready to start building with $100,000 USD of Azure credits and other exciting benefits designed to accelerate your growth. As you deploy and monitor services on Azure, you’ll be eligible for even more Azure credits, up to $350,000 USD.

Take a few moments to review and sign your program agreement by signing in to Microsoft for Startups with the LinkedIn account you used when applying."

After logging in with my LinkedIn account, I clicked "Activate Azure" in the hero section, then selected "Complete Azure sign-up." I first completed the sign-up using my university Outlook email, but now I cannot unlink or change that account. I tried again using my personal Outlook account, but Azure shows: "No credit is linked to your email."

How can I resolve this and link the Microsoft for Startups Azure credits to the correct Microsoft/Azure account?

Microsoft for Startups Startup credits must stay with the Microsoft account that was used to activate them; they cannot be moved between different Microsoft accounts after activation.

    From the program guidance:

    • The individual who received the credit offer must activate it using their Microsoft Account (MSA), which is a personal login such as a gmail.com, hotmail.com, or live.com address.
    • When that MSA is used to activate the offer, an Entra tenant and Azure subscription are created and the credits are applied to the subscription linked to the billing profile associated with that tenant and MSA.
    • If there is already an existing pay‑as‑you‑go subscription on that MSA, credits are not automatically applied to other subscriptions; instead, subscriptions must share the same billing profile, which requires an Azure support request.

In this scenario, the credits are now tied to the university Outlook MSA that was used during the initial “Complete Azure sign‑up” step. The “No credit is linked to your email” message on the personal Outlook account appears because that second MSA has no Startup credits associated with it.

    To proceed:

    1. Continue using the university Outlook MSA for the Startup credits
      • Sign in to the Azure Portal with the university Outlook MSA.
      • Under Cost Management + Billing > Billing profiles and Payment methods, confirm that the Startup credits are visible on the subscription created during activation.
      • Use that subscription (and tenant) for deploying and managing Azure resources funded by the Startup credits.
    2. If credits were activated on the same MSA as an existing pay‑as‑you‑go subscription
      • If the university Outlook MSA already had a pay‑as‑you‑go subscription and credits did not land where expected, request that subscriptions be linked to the same billing profile so the credits can be used on the desired subscription.
      • This must be done by submitting an Azure support request as described in the guidance for linking subscriptions to a billing profile.
    3. If the wrong MSA was used and a different MSA must be primary
      • The program documentation does not support self‑service transfer of Startup credits between MSAs.
      • For any exception handling (for example, if the university account is not suitable for long‑term ownership), submit a program support request:
        • If the startup joined before May 29, 2026: sign in to the Microsoft for Startups Portal, select the ? icon, then Submit a Support Ticket, and describe that credits were activated on the wrong MSA and that the desired MSA is different.
        • If the startup joined on or after May 29, 2026: use the Microsoft for Startups experience in the Azure Portal to submit a program support request and provide the same details.

Program support can review the specific enrollment and advise whether any remediation is possible; however, standard behavior is that credits remain with the MSA used for activation.
